The Aloha shirt that Wildman designed in the past will be exhibited at the Chigasaki Museum (Kanagawa).

Aloha shirt has been familiar with the scenery of Japan’s summer. At Chigasaki, it is officially accepted as a cool biz style.

However, what kind of shirt is Aloha shirt?  Why did it made in Hawaii? Why is it bright and flamboyant? Japanese kimono dragon and tiger pattern and are these Japanese patterns are also Aloha shirts? Are there changes through generations? If you start to think about it, many questions come up.

This exhibition is held in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Chigasaki and Honolulu. The exhibition features selected rare collections by Ryoichi Kobayashi who is the president of the Toyo Enterprise, director of Aloha shit brand SUN SURF and also a  world-renowned collector of aloha shirts. In the collection, there are rare vintage Aloha shirts rarely seen today which are made between the 1930s to 1950s. To tell the charm of the Aloha shirt, this exhibition will introduce the history of Hawaii and Aloha shirts that deeply connects to Japanese culture and Japanese people. Coincidentally, this year it will mark the 55th anniversary for the establishment of Toyo Enterprise which has a deep connection with American fashion culture. This will be a great opportunity to open the modern clothing history.
