It was a perfect day for an event on Sunday May 15, 2016 in Odaiba, Tokyo. The sky was blue with fluffy white clouds and the breeze kept the temperature down. MOONEYES celebrated it’s 30th Anniversary this year with the 30th Annual Mooneyes Street Car Nationals. Although there will be some that say it’s not such a big deal, sure, but in reality, for a custom car show to continue for 30 straight times in Japan, it’s not so simple and a huge milestone not for the company but for all the individuals that love this car culture we live and breathe. When no one believed of gathering a bunch of car nuts together in 1986, there was one person that did and made it happen. Over the years, the event has grown and this year there were 1,200 custom cars of all types gathered together, over 100 swap meet vendors, 16 artists in the pinstripe gathering and fun for everyone. Thank you very much for your tremendous support over the years.

For the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary, MQQNEYES restored their original worker bee, the 1974 VW Type-II delivery van. This was MOON OF JAPAN’s very first vehicle purchased and put to work when the company started in the mid ’80s. Bringing it back to it’s original look with bright yellow paint and freshly done logo by Wildman. The wheels were also changed back to MOON Discs and Port-O-Wall (white wall toppers) sa well. Among the cars this year were some well known classics that turned out to help celebrate. These included previously owned and produced cars by Mooneyes over the years such as Nissan “Glory Rod”, Toyota “My 1/2 Hemi”, Mitsubishi “Moon Glow” and others.

Next to the Mooneyes booth was a special gallery featuring every poster for SCN since its beginning in 1986.

There were 7 MOONEYES awards and 21 awards presented by different media/magazines. Before the 28 awards were presented, a special awards was given to Shige Suganuma from the CAMSHAFTERS for the 30th Anniversary.

During SCN at the Mooneyes booth, we carried out our ongoing campaign for the HCS2016 “Respect Our Kulture – MAMOROH”. We had bumper stickers and free sticker to give away.

It’s been 30 years. Over the years, the support team has grown but there were some original members from the very first SCN still helping out. Back then, they were in their 30-40s but today, even in their 60-70s, they are going strong. Thank you for making Mooneyes Street Car Nationals a reality for us all.
