This issue of US Trip Report is premier of Robert Williams documentary film
" Robert Williams: Mr. Bitchin' "

It was shown in the (Leo S. Bing Auditorium) Film hall at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) which movie hall was sold out with invitation and tickets sold. This movie was edited from clips taken in 25 years and real history of Robert Williams as artist and his effect to world can be seen.

場所は、Down Town 近くのLA近代美術館、FILM用のホールに
招待とチケット購入された方でほぼ満席となり、
ROBERT WILLIAMSの25年間撮り続けられたクリップが編集されたこのMOVIEは、
ArtistとしてのRobert Williamsと彼の四半世紀にわたる活動やその影響を垣間見れます。

This documentary showed change of reputation of his art as art, where it was so strong with message of real society's odd and unmentioned in appearance through the first of " Lowbrow art" , expressing his minds world through comics and adding new huge scale sculpture thus expression of his world is endless and fact that doing solo show in a gallery in New York, the top of the hill for art world.

Low Blow Art の第一人者であり、COMIC ARTからも彼の想像する世界を表現し、
最新の巨大スケールのスカルプチャーも加わりその世界はとどまるところを知らず、
Art業界の縮図と彼が称えるNew Yorkでの個展もそのArtとしての批評をやっと
ポジテイブなレプレーションを得て一般的には避けられた誰もが"Blow Your Mind"と
まさに正気を吹っ飛ばされる社会への矛盾や偏屈を呼びかけたメッセージを持つ
彼のアートがアートとして認められた変化を伝えるものでした。

The wide range of his influence went through the real times history with big names of Hot Rod world Ed " Big Daddy" Roth and Von Dutch and his creation of "Juxtapoz" magazine made to reveal the expression to the world which had no where to out put in time before that.

とても幅広い影響力は、彼のHot Rodとその筋での大御所でかかわってきた
Ed "Big Daddy" ROTHや、Von Dutchとの歴史も含め、彼が立ち上げた非常識的ARTを
披露するための雑誌"Juxtapoz"を通じて世の中へ繰り出されていった。

The hall was filled with hand clapping, standing ovation to praise the strong energy of sub culture through the 90 minutes.
Robert Williams made a discussion about art on stage and made strong message of means to his art " Blow Your Mind! "

会場内では、この90分にわたるSub Cultureの強いエネルギーを称えて、
スタンデイングオベーションに大拍手が渦巻いた。
Robert Williams は、ステージでArt評論家との対談を行い、終始、
彼のArtの意義を唱えた、"Blow Your Mind!"

With this strong message, Robert Williams will come to this year's " Hot Rod Custom Show".
Suzanne Williams will be there too, who has been the closest Hot Rodder, artist and co worker who spent same time working at Ed Roth Studio.

この強いメッセージを伝えにRobert Williamsが今年のHOT ROD Custom Showにやってきます。
Susanne Williamsは、彼に一番近いHot Rod仲間でもありArtistでもあります。
この長い歴史のなかで彼女もEd ROTH Studioで働いた同士でもあります。

It will be great for blooming Sub Culture scene in Japan to meet them in person, feel the real absolute energy possessing the main stream art like a tsunami.

是非日本の渦巻くSub CultureがメインストリームをTUNAMIのように
圧倒するエネルギーの根源として活躍する彼らを一目見ていただけたら幸いです!

"SO-CAL Open house"

Next is trip to the SO-CAL Open house, this Father's Day weekend is Open house season for Hot Rod shop.
さて、この週末は、Fathers WeekendsでOPEN HOUSEのシーズンでもあります。
早速その代表的なSO-CALのOPEN HOUSE に行ってきました。

SO-CAL Open house was packed as usual, over a hundred Hot Rods and customs filled space made on street in front of the shop and in side shop area was filled with high dollar cars like Billy F Gibbons' Thunderbird and 34 Ford Coupe, Blue Merc Conv which came to HCS show before and all kinds of hot rods and race cars, Model A, Deuce,34s.

SO-CAL OPENHOUSEは、例年のとおり盛況で、目の前の通りは片側クルマが
4列x数百メートルならび、会場のSHOP敷地内の通りも裏側まで並んで、
BFGのサンダーバード、34クーペ(FULLERTONCUSTOMから購入したばかりのベース)、
HCSに過去来日した青のMERC CONVなどHIGHDOLLARな車や、レースカー、
MODELA,Deuce,34などHOTRODが埋め尽くしていました。

The shop has huge space but all was filled with plenty of people, The famous treat of IN&OUT Burger was all gone in about 2 hours and from my curiosity I asked it was 900 burgers given out that day.

相当広い敷地ですが、来場者でいっぱいになり、名物のIN&OUTのFREEハンバーガーも
2時間ほどで品切れ、興味本位で聞いたところなんとその数は900個配ったそうです。

It was great to see all people too, Robert and Suzanne Williams, Rob Fortier, Jeff Decker, Rico Fodrey, Grant Peterson, The Harpoon, Mr. Kasai and Tom from Deuce factory Japan with their customers from Japan. Also it was very nice to see all people visiting with family and all fathers seemed to be enjoying the most out of this Father's weekends.

会場では、ROB & Suzanne Williams, ROB FORTIER, JEFF DECKER, RICO, GRANT, HARPOON,
DF笠井さん、小川君、お客様2名様の来客あり、イベントで人に会う楽しみを実感しました。
また家族連れの来場も目立ち、父の日の週末だけに御父さんも余裕を持って趣味を満喫しているようでした。

The other big event was the LA Roadster Show at Pomona on Saturday, Sunday.
The Saturday morning started with set up at MOONEYES USA booth in the main area.
Trailer and 10x 10 tent set up next to Edelbrock.

そして今回のTripのEventは、Pomonaで土日に開かれた"LA ROADSTER SHOW"。
土曜の朝からMOONEYES USAの出店ブースのヘルプに周り、スワップエリアとメイン会場ネット内の境で、
エーデルブロックの並びで、トレーラーと10X10テントにセットアップ。

Then it was time to check out the Swap meet area. The Old Ford parts is the specialty of this event and parts like mechanical injections, 2 barrel carbs, Ford metal parts, vintage mag wheel all too hard to judge for beginners and full of vintage gold for veterans of old schools.

早速気になるフェンス外側のSWAPMEETは、このイベントらしくOLD FORDの部品が多く、
Mechanical Injectionや, 2バレルキャブの数々、FORD metal parts, Vintage Mag Wheelなど、
素人には見分けるのが難しく、どれも玄人向けの宝の山というのが印象的でした。

Plus in the swap meet area, well known people from HRCS like the Kennedy brothers, BURBANK CHOPPERS, Jeff Decker, Willie Dorsey had each booth out with old Ford parts displayed in showcase, Vintage mag wheels, vintage toys and full of dead stock old gold were brought in there.



また、会場内には、HOT ROD Custom ShowでおなじみのKennedy Brothers, BURBANK CHOPPERS,
JEFF DECKER, Willie も出店していて、それぞれOLD FORD PARTSをSHOW CASEでDISPLAYしたり、
MAG WHEELやVINTAGE TOYなどDEADSTOCKの宝が持ち込まれていました。

This event brought many people from all over world like France, New Zealand, Australia,
Japan and also many people from across the country to buy expensive but Vintage old golds.

このイベントは、FRANCE, New Zealandや、オーストラリア、日本など海外からの来客や、
アメリカ人でもお金持ちそうなお客様も目立ち、高くても良いもの、VINTAGEのお宝を買う人には、
とっても良い物に会える確率が高いように思いました。

Plus the amazing numbers of roadsters gathers to this show, in show car area, swap and even to parking lot. Some great motors like HEMIs and ARDEN heads with blowers or fabulous paint and original restore rod all made people to stop and stare.

それと会場内に展示されたROADSTERたちの数は圧倒的で、同じように見て回っている人達も
HEMIや、ARDENHEADにSuper Charger付きの凄いエンジンや、派手な外装ペイントや、
オリジナルっぽいキレイなレストアロッドなどに足を停めていました。

Also many people join this show in groups like car clubs, friends and family. Which almost makes rare to see people coming alone to the show. It was Father's Day weekend and it was clear to see family putting up for fathers hobby to go to the shows and that's great practice about the southern California, a real Hot Rod Heaven!

また、クラブや友人、家族などグループでの参加が多く、逆に一人で来ている人が相当少ないように
見受けられました。父の日だけあって、父の趣味に合わせて皆が来ている、
それはさすが南カルフォルニアのHot Rod Heaven!
出来上がった慣習の感が強かったイベントでした!
