If you notice your steering has become sloppy or wanders side to side while you drive, it may be time to invest some effort into checking out your steering tie rods and center link assembly. 2015-01-12 09.07.432015-01-12 09.08.48

After careful inspection, it was discovered that the steering dampener also needed to be replaced.  Parts were ordered and the repairs began.  Be sure to have the right tools or this job could turn into a nightmare!  Most of the time spent on these jobs is cleaning up all the old gunk and splitting the tie rods.  These were original parts, so they were really stuck in there.

Pulled out the old assembly and counted the number of turns it took to remove the old tie rods.  The new tie rods have to be installed in exactly the same amount of rotations.

Installation takes half the time of removal, but requires a bit more attention to detail.  Bolts and nuts need to be torqued and castle nuts need to be cotter pined.  Steering and brakes are probably the most important safety factors when it comes to automobiles.
