Hello, this is Goshu from MOON GARAGE. This time it's a Trip Report for US California.
I went to the "3rd Annual Japanese Classic Car Show (JCCS)" which started all this Japanese Classic Car movement in Southern California. On first Saturday of October 6th, the 3rd Annual JCCS was hosted at Queen Mary Park in Long beach, California and as it was third time, entrant cars became more deeply involved. |
| First scene at the show is same as always at green grass park of Mary Queen which looks small in USA but actually big to think of it as a place to hold 300 pre 1985 cars. And this year is this! "Japanese Street Car Customs (JSCC)" finally came out in California too. It's familiar for people who spent real time in Yokohama in 80s who probably cruised Yamashita Park and Bay Bridge Parking and full of JSCC were seen most in The MOONEYES Street Car Nationals. May be he learned from the pictures on dead stock "Cal Magazine" which is becoming only source to see the JCCS scene. Or may be found old show pictures on MOONEYES web site. |
| I remember back in the days I started to work as part time in Motomachi MOONEYES shop as MOONEYES had full of parts to make JCCS. But I could tell its updated as super long shifter and Steel wheel wit metallic paint are current days customs. It was all solid red, black, cream paint for most of steel wheel back than. The detail is important too but its more important to see the very straight to the JCCS style makes me feel the 20 years has passed already and time rotated around to see them appear again. |
| Among the current talked about California Japanese classic car scene with Drag Race style with Puerto Rican or Mexican owners are well known, but he was regular guy with friend in surfer style with long hair, may be most people are like that on beach and wait, is he getting into the "AmeCaji" Scene that was happening at that time? Casual clothing style that was big back then actually referred to American casual and surf cloths but may be that too much of a guess right? But that's 2007 California something is happening now. |

Another interesting scene was there. At the far corner of the show space, young guy was alone in EZ ups and all his selling T-shirts were "modified Japanese Car related names and brands". By the way there are many "modified" Logo and Brand name T-shirts sold in Japan too but its happening in California too. |
And its super minor brand "Modified" now the regular American young guy is making T-shirts with modified Japanese car names and brands and selling them! Which is totally weird thing if it was 10 years ago but that's what is happening now and interesting to see that he was the owner of the only one MS50 Toyota Crown Sedan at the show. According to the local information there are many MS50 Sedan out there on sale. Probably people who had them put out the sales on web and auto traders.
The Imported Japanese Classics in shadow has started to show up and come out under the sun light again. Very interesting to see how JCCS will turn out at California! JCCS 07 Official DVD Now On Sale! |
