Hello, it's Aizawa of MOONEYES!
Well, this time it's the report continuing from last year of the California dream event, VW Classic held in Irvine.
Before departure, at Narita Airport, inside the terminal the Origami (The
Japanese art of paper folding) Museum was discovered. A collection of
artistic works from foreigners was on display, plus actual Origami sheets
and "How to" books were for sale.

This was a display sample for Yokohama, featuring a beautifully reproduced
cherry blossoms pattern at the Totsuka hotel. Tremendous details down to the
crabs in the water.
Within a short period, it was time to hop on Korean Air for a direct flight
to LAX and head to VW Classic.
Saving the Bibimbap for the route home, the chicken was selected for the
flight to LAX.
In the USA where the event took place, the VW Classic Week starts on Thursday.
Around the area of the main event, there are other venues and meetings being held for one full week of VWs.
But because of scheduling,
I arrived on Friday.
With that said, having a good pace to cover the entire show would keep things interesting.
On the freeway heading to the event, quick to spot a different looking object, this was encountered! Baja Bug.

First off, Day 1...
June 6th
1.Vee Dub Parts Unlimited at Huntington Beach / Open house
Their main subject has always been buggies or baja bugs, but also have drag race cars, and several on display.
This year again, there was free Hot Dogs and Sodas.
Thank you very much.
It was very good.
Sedan with Centerline wheels, desert tires, it has a good look. Like Mr.
Yoshio's posters, the color is brilliant.
Open House events are fun for the customers but fun for the staff as well. Just like in Japan, it's about everyone together having fun.

2. West Coast Classic at Fullerton / Open house
Driving up from distances with a trailer is not uncommon.
There are a number of historic vehicles here.
A mini tote bag.
The outer surface is material from a VW seat cover, with the inside made of headliner material.
It was very popular.
BIS Mr. Yamazaki, Hello.
Next time, I'll be sure to come sooner.

3. DKP Cruise Night at Fullerton "Nick's Burgers"
This year too, there were lots of cars and lots of people.
The host, DKP Club uses former parts, and retains the beautiful style.
80s Karmann Ghia with a turbo.
For some reason, a super NOVA...
Bus Stop Mr. Suganuma, looking just like the locals.
Old design McDonald's is close by.
The front of the Shopping Square parking lot is in full use that cars are parked around the perimeter and beyond, but everyone is having a positive good time together.
Well then everybody,
*See you tomorrow!*
Although the motel was a far jump of what we are used to, it was close to many of the events and Disney Land as well.
In the distance, the Disney Land fireworks can be seen.

Day Two...
June 7th, Saturday
1. O.C.T.O. Meet

Orange County Transporter Organization, pre'67 Type-2 Meeting
Working vehicle signs are cool and makes the staff energetic.

Continuing on, there was time before the next event (Toy Show) so MOONEYES USA Boss, Chico brought me along to the 200 Mile Club meeting at the NHRA Museum.
Larsen-Cummins Bonneville roadster, Streamliner and others right before my very eyes!
Thought about taking a break and found a bench、and saw this one full with stickers!
Inside the show window there are all kinds of memorabilia. For a VW freak,
the Orange County International Raceway Jacket stands out!!
All sorts of drag racing cars from all classes.
"CHEVY 2 MUCH" looks so nice.
Mondello & Matsubara Fiat Topolino!
LQQK at this cool lamp shade!
World's fastest Flathead!
Heavily used MOON Disc.
Traditional 5 window Street Rod
License plate frame with pride.
At the NHRA Museum and Peterson Museum, it's worth making time for a visit if you are in the area.
Not only for the vehicles on display, but the seeing and learning about the people that made these machines is impressive. Visitors are sure to leave the museum with awe and respect..
Good-bye for now NHRA Museum.
Now on to the next event, VW Toy Show!

2. Toy and Memorabilia Show at Crown Plaza Hotel
This year, again, takes place in an elegant hotel. Crown Plaza Hotel 2nd floor is the space where it is held and there were plenty of mania collectors on the scene.
It was indoors but there was heat from the crowd.
Outside was silent.
Around the gas station was crowded with VWs.

3. Gene Berg Rally Orange CA
Arrival at Gene Berg Ent. and
there's Flat-4. Hello!
Gene Berg Ent, located in Orange, held a rally fund-raiser, where cars entered had to stop at check points along the way to the finish line located at Northwood Pizza parlor.
It wasn't about speed, but seemed difficult because of each check point.
Since there were no check points for our vehicle (didn't do the rally) there was no one at the goal line pizza parlor when we initially arrived.
While waiting, we visited American Heritage Shop.
Airstream and MOONEYES USA Chevy HHR
Jim Dunn/MOONEYES Racing helmet piggy bank!
Moving on to lunch, we had something different.
In the shopping center was Irvine Chinese Food and we ate the fried noodles combo.
The soda cup is a wonder... but lunch was very good.
Gene Berg Rally Goal/Finish at Northwood Pizza was filled with VWs.
Tomorrow's VW Classic will be a full day so it's time to retire early this evening. zzz

Day Three... June 8th, Sunday
1. VW Classic at Verizon Ampitheater

I-5 freeway for a short time and we arrive at the same place as last year's event.
The water park has a very large parking area which is where the event is held.
On the way, we see DKP club cars in a VW convoy.
They are going at a steady pace.
They noticed us and gave an escort to the event area.
In the morning,、
this kind of weather,
It is fine weather just before lunch!.
It cannot be without giving an exclamation of joy.
Race cars lined at the PRA booth and all sorts of booths with interesting things to see.
Alternative freak show
Beautiful T-1
matching the look are the wooden skis and vintage luggage rack with old things being hauled.
The vintage look is peaceful
White wall tires add to the charm.
Seriously looking "Thing" which is destined as the beach car in California.
Honda Vamos, Daihatsu Fero-buggy were just two cars from that same generation of the VW Thing that had the same leisure mobile focus.
Vintage!
Even the license plate frame is precious.
50s Ghia, very charming!
Porsche with Callook.
Beautiful Baja Bug!
Local staff Makoto-san、Yuko-san.
???
Weathered Bug
Mr. Shinnosuke, has a blog featuring California Life Thank you for always posting the latest information!
There were all sorts of cars in the parking lot too.
Early Bronco!
Subaru!
At the end of the day was an award ceremony and sponsors gave away T-shirts!
The crowd went wild!!
Then after everything is over, VWs are seen heading home.
Until next year, take care!
On the way home from the event, Makoto treated me to dinner!
Island Restaurant
Blueberry Banana Smoothie quenches me thirst
Hawaiian Burger fills me up...
What a great VW Classic Week in California...
Good night zzz
The free breakfast supplied by the motel was quickly washed down.
Before leaving back to Japan, the Chevy HHR needed to be returned so it was over to the company and on the way was this Cal look T-2! That's low...
For those that work early in the morning it means finishing earlier in the day and allows for extra time to do things with the extra free time.
That's great isn't it?
Regrettable as it was, it was back to LAX. But as originally planned,
I had the Bibimbap for the flight home!
If anyone is going to be in the USA, Santa Fe Springs area of California to be specific, make sure you stop by the MOONEYES USA shop and say hello.
Next month on July 19th, they will have a BBQ! We'll be waiting!
