"bf6-000"
MOONEYES Staff Steve's USA Trip Report: Born Free 6 & more...
Date: June 26 - July 1, 2014

THURSDAY JUNE 26, 2014 - ARRIVAL & Orange County Harley-Davidson
"bf6-001" "bf6-004" "bf6-002" "bf6-003"
I arrived in California on Thursday June 26, 2014. First stop was MOONEYES USA in Santa Fe Springs.
My main objective for this trip was to attend Born Free 6 held at Oak Canyon Ranch. A big thank you to Mike Davis (left) & Grant Peterson (right) pictured above as well as the rest of the Born Free staff for making this event possible.

"bf6-005" "bf6-006" "bf6-007" "bf6-008" "bf6-009" "bf6-010" "bf6-011" "bf6-012" "bf6-013" "bf6-014" "bf6-015" "bf6-016" "bf6-017" "bf6-018" "bf6-019" "bf6-020" "bf6-021" "bf6-022" "bf6-023" "bf6-024" "bf6-025" "bf6-026" "bf6-027"
In the evening, we headed over to Irvine where there was a special get together party featuring all the invited builder bikes on display at Orange County Harley-Davidson.

FRIDAY JUNE 27, 2014 - BORN FREE 6 SET UP DAY
"bf6-028" "bf6-029"
Morning traffic on California freeways wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
(photo right) Getting close to Irvine Lake, the event was just over the hill.

"bf6-030" "bf6-031"
We arrived at the site and started to setup the MOONEYES Booth. We seen Kiyo from Kiyo's Garage pushing his turbo charged HONDA CB. He was also unloading a couple other nice looking bikes. The Honda CB750 is going to be here in December as a guest bike at HCS2014. Sumi just posted photos of this bike in his report from last week. (check it out)

"bf6-032" "bf6-033"
Once the booth was initially setup, I headed over to check all the Invited Builder Bikes.
This area will be packed with people tomorrow so I decided to get photos of each bike on display.

"bf6-034" "bf6-035" "bf6-036" "bf6-037" "bf6-038" "bf6-039" "bf6-040" "bf6-041" "bf6-043" "bf6-044" "bf6-045" "bf6-046" "bf6-047" "bf6-048" "bf6-049" "bf6-050" "bf6-051" "bf6-052" "bf6-053" "bf6-054" "bf6-055" "bf6-056" "bf6-057" "bf6-058" "bf6-060" "bf6-061" "bf6-062" "bf6-063" "bf6-064" "bf6-065" "bf6-066" "bf6-067" "bf6-068" "bf6-069" "bf6-070" "bf6-071"
The first two bikes shown above were Hawg Holic & Brat Style, invited builders brought over from Japan. There were 26 builders in total. From these bikes, the 1st place Builder's Choice winner would be the MOONEYES PICK and would be coming to Japan in December for HCS2014! This year, the Best in Show award would be selected from everything in the show excluding the builder's bikes so Mike & Grant had their work cut out from them this weekend.

"bf6-072"
Born Free 6 Raffle "Giveaway Bike" built by Todd Asin from Small City Cycles

"bf6-073" "bf6-074" "bf6-075" "bf6-076" "bf6-077" "bf6-078"
Bikes brought over from Japan as special guests included (from left) Love Ear Art, Deluxie, Luck Motorcycle, Duas Caras and Jurassic Customs.

"bf6-079" "bf6-080"
You might not recognize this bike. It was brought to Japan for HCS2009.
It's Harpoon's Panhead completely redone into a full-on show bike.

"bf6-081" "bf6-082" "bf6-083" "bf6-084" "bf6-085" "bf6-086" "bf6-087" "bf6-088" "bf6-089" "bf6-091" "bf6-092" "bf6-094"

"bf6-095" "bf6-090" "bf6-097"
Big Scott Stopnik's Knucklehead (HCS2013); Mike Davis' Triumph (HCS2012); Yaniv Evan's Panhead (HCS2013)

"bf6-098" "bf6-099"
Cook's Corner located close to the event location is where the parties go down. Friday night was Show Class Magazine's Peoples Champ Party. A narrowed down group of motorcycles, after several stages of voting, were sorted on display. The winner from this would be included in the Builder's Invite area of Born Free 6.

"bf6-100" "bf6-101" "bf6-102" "bf6-103" "bf6-104" "bf6-105" "bf6-106" "bf6-107" "bf6-108" "bf6-110" "bf6-111" "bf6-112" "bf6-113" "bf6-114" "bf6-115" "bf6-116" "bf6-117" "bf6-119" "bf6-120" "bf6-121" "bf6-122" "bf6-123" "bf6-124" "bf6-125"
There were so many bikes parked outside of Cook's Corner. At least half (maybe more) had out of state plates. It just goes to show how awesome the Born Free show is as so many people ride from all over the country just to be here for the weekend. After dark, the voting was complete and we headed home for the night.

SATURDAY JUNE 28, 2014 - BORN FREE 6 (Day 1)
"bf6-126" "bf6-127" "bf6-128" "bf6-129" "bf6-130" "bf6-131" "bf6-132" "bf6-133" "bf6-134" "bf6-135" "bf6-136" "bf6-137" "bf6-138" "bf6-139" "bf6-140" "bf6-141" "bf6-142" "bf6-143" "bf6-144" "bf6-145" "bf6-146" "bf6-147" "bf6-148" "bf6-149" "bf6-150" "bf6-151" "bf6-152" "bf6-153" "bf6-154" "bf6-155" "bf6-156" "bf6-157" "bf6-158" "bf6-159" "bf6-160" "bf6-161" "bf6-162" "bf6-163" "bf6-164" "bf6-165" "bf6-166" "bf6-167" "bf6-168" "bf6-169" "bf6-170" "bf6-171" "bf6-172" "bf6-173" "bf6-174" "bf6-175" "bf6-176" "bf6-177" "bf6-178" "bf6-179" "bf6-180" "bf6-181" "bf6-182" "bf6-183" "bf6-184" "bf6-185" "bf6-186" "bf6-187" "bf6-188" "bf6-189" "bf6-190" "bf6-191" "bf6-199" "bf6-200" "bf6-201" "bf6-202" "bf6-203" "bf6-204" "bf6-205" "bf6-206" "bf6-207"

AWARDS TIME
"bf6-208" "bf6-209" "bf6-210" "bf6-211"
WINNER: Invited Builder 1st Place/MOONEYES PICK was Sunrise Cycles Kosuke Saito.
Build: 1936 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. So many handcrafted parts and small details you don't see at first until you really get close up.

"bf6-452" "bf6-453" "bf6-454" "bf6-455" "bf6-456" "bf6-457" "bf6-458" "bf6-459" "bf6-460" "bf6-461" "bf6-462" "bf6-463" "bf6-464" "bf6-465" "bf6-466" "bf6-467"
To really appreciate this chopper, come see it live and in person at HCS2014 on Dec. 7, 2014 at Pacifico Yokohama!

"kiyosgarage-top"
BRENT ROGERS - KIYO'S GARAGE - GARDENA, CA
"bf6-468" "bf6-469" "bf6-470" "bf6-471" "bf6-472"
Our next stop was at Kiyo's Garage to check out Brent Rogers' 1946 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead built by Kiyo's Garage. Brent began this project over seven years ago. Over the years he had it in different shops, changed the color scheme several times and overall style many times as well. In the end, he brought it to Kiyo's Garage where the finished result was perfection. Brent also met up with legendary drag race painter Bill Carter for the paint work with lace paint, fades, gradation and more. When we arrived at Kiyo's Garage, Bill Carter was there to greet us.

"bf6-473" "bf6-474" "bf6-475" "bf6-476" "bf6-477" "bf6-478" "bf6-479" "bf6-480" "bf6-481" "bf6-482" "bf6-483" "bf6-484" "bf6-485" "bf6-486" "bf6-487" "bf6-488" "bf6-489" "bf6-490"
Subtle modifications and custom touches were worked into the build from the relocated rear brake master cylinder, ripple pipes and even the headlight mount. Date: June 26 - July 1, 2014 THURSDAY JUNE 26, 2014 - ARRIVAL & Orange County Harley-Davidson I arrived in California on Thursday June 26, 2014. In the evening, we headed over to Irvine where there was a special get together party featuring all the invited builder bikes on display at Orange County Harley-Davidson. FRIDAY JUNE 27, 2014 - BORN FREE 6 SET UP DAY Morning traffic on California freeways wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. (photo right) Getting close to Irvine Lake, the event was just over the hill. (check it out) Once the booth was initially setup, I headed over to check all the Invited Builder Bikes. This area will be packed with people tomorrow so I decided to get photos of each bike on display. The first two bikes shown above were Hawg Holic & Brat Style, invited builders brought over from Japan. There were 26 builders in total. From these bikes, the 1st place Builder's Choice winner would be the MOONEYES PICK and would be coming to Japan in December for HCS2014! This year, the Best in Show award would be selected from…
