速く走る ODC (*注)の2回目はやはり 1960 Toyota Crown Sedan。

この車は北 California で見つかった貴重な輸出観音クラウンです。ですから TOYOPET でなくてTOYOTA です。 購入後南 California の MOONEYES USA へ回送されて来ました。
日本にそのまま送るか、それともしばらく Californiaに置いておくか、いずれにしてもちょっと邪魔だったのでガレージにしまいに行く途中、ある Street Rod Shop に立ち寄った事がきっかけでこの様な姿に生まれ変わりました。

シャシーとボディーは別々にされフロントには Mustang II の足回り、リアは Ford 9" デフをそれぞれ移植し、エンジンは Chevy ZZ3 350 (5.7L) モーターに MOONEYES オリジナル Cross Ram マニフォールド、本来は Weber サイドドラフトと行く所ですがこの車は EFI を装着しました。トランスミッションは TH350AT、国産の皮を被った USA 車です。軽いボデイーと Chevy V-8 の有り余るパワーから加速感は怖さを感じるくらい暴力的です。ODC のこんな楽しい乗り方あるの知ってました？ 古い車のままでは今の道路事情について行くのは危険が一杯ですから 新しいエンジンや足回りに変更すれば周りに迷惑も掛けず乗り回せますし、いざと言う時はアクセルをポンと踏めば急加速で追い越しも可能です。セルシオのドライブトレインを丸テールクラウンに移植したらきっとイージードライブが可能でしょうね。

The 2nd generation, "fast" Old Domestic Cars (ODC) is a 1960 TOYOTA Crown Sedan.
This rare 4dr Export Crown was found in Northern California. So its not called a "Toyopet" which is the original name of Toyota in Japan until it changed officilally to Toyota, but export model were always Toyota. After the purchase of this sedan, the car was transported to MOONEYES USA in Santa Fe Springs, California. Either sending car to Japan or keeping it in California, car had to be moved out from the warehouse, so it was dropped off at a Street Rod Shop was the beginning of this project began. The car went through a body-off restoration with an addition of a Mustang II IFS front and Ford 9" rear. The motor was a Chevy small block, ZZ3 350 (5.7L) with MOONEYES Cross Ram Manifold and EFI instead of the classic sidedraft Webers. The TH350AT was selected for the transmission. As a result, it was an American Car under the Japanese Domestic exterior. Overall, a light body and strong Chevy V8 power makes aggressive acceleration which is pretty scary with the short wheelbase.

Did you know fun way to enjoy Old (Japanese) Domestic Cars (ODC) like this? It's too dangerous to drive a bone stock old car on today's streets, although this might be over the top... still the ODC powertrain from back in the day are too weak today. With a new motor and proper suspension, you can drive stress-free and accelerate without failure. If you take a Lexus drivetrain and drop it into a 1964 Toyota Crown, look out! What do you think?
