The engine was finally fired up. How many years has it been?
\r\n This engine is a 183 cubic-inch, 3 liter Chevy V-8. Naturally, it's not something \r\n Chevrolet put out.
\r\n It's a legendary engine built by Fred Larsen.

\r\n It's the 307 MPH FIA record engine*
\r\n *In 1992, Fred Larsen joined the 300 MPH Club with a record run at FIA (307 \r\n MPH) in the Larsen-Cummins Streamliner using this 3L engine.
\r\n
\r\n With Fred's wife Mary Lou standing by, the engine was prepared.
\r\n
\r\n You knew Mary Lou wanted to hear the first crack and cackle of that engine because \r\n it was after 9PM when we called her and she replied with an instant, "I'm \r\n coming over now! "When the engine was fired up, it looked like this.Although \r\n older now, Mary Lou was in very high spirits, even this late.
\r\n
\r\n In the quite of night, the open header, super-charger and alcohol-fed engine \r\n really made some noise!
\r\n Fred used to fire this engine up every year at his own house, that's amazing! \r\n His neighbors must have been amazed!
\r\n The engine sound was recorded too but we'll have to make a video of it and put \r\n it up at a later time.
\r\n
\r\n The hood for the roadster was made the next day.
\r\n This is the bender Using the same jig used for the frame, tubes were welded \r\n in position so that the hood could be hammered into shape.
\r\n You can see Chico here, steadily making the section where the grille shell meets \r\n the hood.
\r\n In over 30 years that I've known this man, Chico still impresses me on his skill \r\n and craftsmanship.
\r\n
\r\n As all this was going on, Tim arrived, to prime the FRP parts.

\r\n By the way, isn't it illegal to be painting outdoors in this area of Southern \r\n California? Well it is Sunday, and well, what ever.
\r\n After the painting was completed, Tim tried to jump into the roadster.
\r\n However, he's too tall and couldn't fit his legs properly into the cockpit. \r\n
\r\n As he was unable to sit right, he gave an appropriate gesture signifying his \r\n feelings.
\r\n Seating and proper fit are very important factors when purchasing a completed \r\n race car, kids.
\r\n Incidentally, I didn't get to press the accel pedal.

\r\n At last, this weekend is El Mirage. Will Chico's Modified '27 T Roadster break \r\n any records? Will he enter the 200 MPH Club?
