| May 18th, 1997. This was the day when Kenji Okazaki won the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) tournament on his MOONEYES/Jim Dunn Racing Dodge Avenger Funny Car, after going for it for 5 years. For the first time ever was a non-northern American awarded trophy. The NHRA was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 and has become the highest level of professional drag racing. |

Unfortunately, in 1997, MOON pulled out of the drag race scene until 2000 and 2001. And now in 2003, the MOONEYES Logo Funny Car has made a comeback, but not in the USA, and no, not in the states; in Sweden. |
| The drag race scene in Europe has been growing over the years, from hot rods to sport compacts, list goes down to infinitum. Sweden is the second most drag raced country following England. And now in Sweden a new funny car with the Eyeball mark strapped on, has been catching a lot of attention. Yes, the MOONEYES funny car has now crossed the Atlantic Ocean alas. |

The driver of this bare metal funny car is Martin Lundqvist, a 29 year old. Him and his Team LUNDQVIST MOTORSPORTS, powers a 97 Pontiac Firebird based Top Alcohol Funny Car. The base is like all others buy underneath is a BAE 526 Hemi + Whipple supercharger, a Crower Cluth, and a Mark Williams 9.5 Rear end. The last ET we got was a dazzling 6.71 seconds with a highest speed of 291.5 km/h. Check out the movie for more details. |
