| 4月23日(日）、NASH（Burnout Magazine編集人）に誘われて、California PasadenaにあるJohnson Motors主催の"Hot Rods, Bobbers and Cafe Racers"というイベントに行ってきました。場所はOld Town Pasadena、古いビルが沢山残る雰囲気のある街です。Johnson MotorsはTriumph等のBritish系バイクを中心とした、オリジナルClothingやバイク関連商品を扱う、お洒落なShopです。近々LAのMelroseにも出展するというから楽しみです。 |

EventはタイトルのごとくHot RodとBobberそしてさすが英国系です、Cafe Racerまで加わり、Triumphは勿論、HD、そしてHONDA CB750まで加わる幅の広さです。 |

| Cafe Racersは昔々30数年前日本でもはやりました。日本のスタイルとUKのとはちょっと違いますが、Cafe RacerというとCB750や500を中心としたカスタムで、当時の日本では最先端でした。ボラーニ製のアルミリム、ヨシムラの手曲げ集合マフラー プラス イタルボランテ製のサレンサー、コンチネンタル ハンドル プラス バーエンドミラーは、手曲げ絞りハンドルに風防の当時の若者とは一線を引くスタイルだったのです。そのCafe Racerが今度はCaliforniaで見直されてきました。それもCB750でです。多分このスタイルがCaliforniaで見られるようになったのは、ほんの数年前からだと思います。日本で昔流行っても今までCaliforniaには無かったスタイルですが、日本人には記憶にあるスタイルですね。 |
| 街をフラフラしてみると多くのTriumph、それもBobberに出会いました。オリジナルのリジットもあれば後付けタイプのリジットもありましたが、どれもリジットフレームです。HDばかりが目立ったこの世界で、最近にわかにTriumphが見直されてきました。TriumphはBritishバイクですが、このBobber StyleはCaliforniaのカスタム、RockerのTriumphとはまたちょっと違うテイスト、Hot RodderにはTriumph Bobberです。 |

| 日本でもHDは勿論ですがTriumphが気になってきた方も大勢いると思います。今からでも遅くありません。リジットのTriumphは少ないですから早目に購入した方がいいですよ。 | |

元Zeroの木村さんも日本で製作したTriumphを展示していました。当日Awardを受賞したのは言うまでもありません。13時から18時の短いイベントでしたが久しぶりに楽しいイベントでした。 |
I went to an event called "The Hot Rods, Bobbers and Cafe Racers" hosted by Johnson Motors in California Pasadena on Sunday April 23rd with invitation by NASH (editor of "Burnout Magazine"). The Show was at old town Pasadena where many old buildings are still left and has own old atmosphere. Johnson Motors is a cool shop with bike parts and original clothing for British bike mainly Triumphs. They will soon have shop open at Melrose.
The event featured Hot Rod and Bobbers as titled and amazing range of cafe racers with British standard covered wide range of bikes from Triumph, HD and Honda CB750.
Cafe Racers were seen in Japan 30 years ago. It had different style from British which mainly had custom work done on CB750 or 500 and considered as frontier of the motorcycle trend. Aluminum rim by Bollani, Hand bend headers by Yoshimura, silencer by Italborante, continental handle with bar end mirror were different style from hand bent narrowed handle with wind guard. That cafe racers are getting attention in California and with CB750. Think this style started just few years ago in California. The cafe racers style is familiar to Japanese as it once boomed in Japan years ago.
But it was not seen in California before, now I see many Triumph with bobber style when walking around in town. They were all ridged frames with original or after market parts. The Triumph is getting more attention nowadays in the world where Harley Davidson takes all attention. Triumph is a British bike but this bobber style is a California custom and different taste compared to Rockers And Triumph bobber is for Hot Rodder.
There are more people getting attention to Triumph in these days. Its not too late to find a Ridged Triumphs yet, but hurry now there are only few out there.
Founder and Former builder at "Zero", Mr. Kimura had Triumph displayed which custom work was done in Japan. Not to mention that he won the Award at the event. I had good time in this event even though the time schedule was short from 1pm to 6pm.s
