16th Annual Street Car Nationals in Sapporo
Last weekend I went to the 16th Annual Street Car Nationals(SCN) in Sapporo at Northern End of Japan in Hokkaido, Iwamizawa. On Saturday I was picked up by Mappa our MOONEYES Staff at Chitose Airport and traveled on road to visit "Ster Motorcycle" and "Pow Wow" at Asahikawa.
"Ster Motorcycle" is famous HD shop in Hokkaido as it represents Custom HD scene in Hokkaido area. In and out side of huge store, there were many Custom HD on display and in working area there were couple of HD in progress. Mr. Koseki the president was working on Custom HD. We have introduced our hosting event "YOKOHAMA Hot Rod Custom Show 2006" and then we went to next stop in city a Rat Fink dealer "Pow Wow". Here they had tons of clothing designed by "Sketch" displayed tight in shop. "Pow Wow" has opened new shop at Sapporo so please visit and see when you have a chance. I imagined that it would be about 1 hour drive from Sapporo to Asahikawa but it actually took 2 hours. Hokkaido is huge, vast green of trees and fields, it was really a Big Green Country. Next we reached "SCAMP" at Sapporo about 7 o'clock in evening, thanks to our modern GPS system. But I was so surprised with the front face of our car which was filled with insects looking like a page of collectable guide book for insects.
SCN in Sapporo was on the next day, it was hosted by MOONEYES Dealer, RAPS at GREEN PIA MIKI of Iwamizawa with blank of four years. On the highway to the event, I saw this Roadrunner and TOYOTA Probox which our Pinstriper "Wildman" ISHII had drawn Roadrunner figures and pinstripes & sign on their body. This Roadrunner has 426 Hemi now but soon will be swaped to 510 Hemi and will entry to the HCS on this year end. It will run on Drag Race next year too. That's something.
Before going through the gate, I had taken picture while I was waiting because this scene was just like the ones in Sweden, may be because it was in Northern end of Japan, Image was exactly the same.
This 1970 TOYOTA Corona was one car took my most of attention at SCN, 15 inch Speed Master Wheel with BF Goodrich Radial T/A, Front had 155-80-15, with white letter tires. Mirrors were GT053, the car was an Old Domestics with very nice balance over all. Of course the same car took MOONEYES Award at the event. This VW had nice low profile, and this Convertible looked good too. Fellows from Aichi Prefecture in Japan where is about 700 km from Sapporo, came with this '64 Impala and took the long distance award. Great job for driving the long way.
The Hosting Shop "Raps" had these two cars on display. MOONEYES had HD on display and opened Shop. 150 over Show Cars and 20 vender booth was recent best high result of entrants. And lastly show was settled with Mr.Koike's '31 Model-A making final on 16th SCN Sapporo, in last Sunday of August with nice sunshine and breeze SCN in Sapporo had closed Safely with no problem. It was like representing the end of short summer in Hokkaido.
